With a total net worth of $23.6 billion, he is the richest person in India for consecutively 8 years now.  Forbes has ranked him as the 36th in the list of most powerful people. He has made his fortune as managing director, shareholder and Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited. RIL is a holding company that deals with the oil and gas sectors, refining and petrochemicals.

Nation’s one of the biggest natural gas fields is also owned by him. In addition to that, the billionaire is working on a project to build India’s first 4G wireless network in 700 cities. Apart from all these, he also owns the Mumbai Indians professional cricket team and is one of the richest sports owners in the world.

3. Carlos Slim- Telmex, America Movil and Grupo Carso

Carlos Slim is a Mexican business investor and philanthropist. Slim has extensive holdings in a considerable number of Mexican companies through his conglomerate, Grupo Carso, SA de CV, have amassed interests in the fields of communications, real estate, airlines, media, technology, retailing, and finance.

His corporate holdings as of October 2014 have been estimated at $78.5 billion.
