Disney and Pixar
Disney had been releasing all of Pixar’s films. The merger had been in the offing for quite some time .Walt Disney announced that it is buying Pixar, the animated studio, then led by Apple head, the late Steve Jobs, for $7.4 billion in 2006. The merger combined two of the leading players in the animation industry .Walt Disney with its historic franchise of animated characters, such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck and Pixar with hits like the “Toy Story" films and “Finding Nemo” got together to bring creative innovation synergies to the fore .At the time of the merger, Pixar had to its credit 6 consecutive animation hits. It was a strategic move by Disney to snatch Pixar up before anyone else. The two together have come up with a number of hugely successful movies like WALL-E ,which won the Oscar for best Animated Feature Film in 2009,”Up” and “Bolt”. Pixar has also gained greatly from the advertising and marketing expertise of Walt Disney. Walt Disney’s quarter ended June 2012 results showed revenues of $ 11,088 million.
