In a significant move to strengthen international trade capabilities of Indian small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Alibaba.com, a leading global B2B e-commerce platform, has officially launched its Trade Assurance service in India. The announcement, made in alignment with World MSME Day on June 27th, reaffirms Alibaba.com’s ongoing commitment to supporting global SMEs with reliable and secure trade solutions.
Global B2B trade often comes with risks and uncertainties related to costs, product quality, delivery timelines, and payments. Alibaba.com's Trade Assurance aims to address these concerns by providing an added layer of protection to both buyers and suppliers. Under this service, buyer payments are held in escrow by Alibaba.com until the order is received and confirmed to be satisfactory offering assurance to both parties in the transaction process.
For Indian suppliers, this marks a critical opportunity. The adoption of Trade Assurance can increase buyer confidence, drive higher visibility, and boost credibility on the platform. By ensuring secure and transparent transactions, suppliers can enhance their online transaction history, resulting in better exposure and potentially more business from international buyers.
“India is one of Alibaba.com's high-potential supplier markets, known for its strong production capabilities and diverse product offerings”, said Rocky Lu, Head of India at Alibaba.com. “The introduction of Trade Assurance is designed to foster trust between Indian suppliers and global buyers. It simplifies trade processes, enhances efficiency, and unlocks new business opportunities ultimately contributing to the growth and success of Indian SMEs”.
The new initiative is expected to not only streamline transaction management but also reduce trade barriers for Indian enterprises looking to scale their global reach. Suppliers who enroll in Trade Assurance can strengthen their online profile, improve rankings, and become more attractive to international customers.
“We are excited to bring Trade Assurance to Indian SMEs", added Summer Gao, Head of Global Supply Chain Services at Alibaba.com. “This service empowers suppliers by boosting their credit ratings and helping them establish a trustworthy reputation. It offers a comprehensive safety net that we believe can be a game-changer for India’s global trade ambitions”.
With this launch, Alibaba.com takes another step forward in its mission to enable and support small businesses worldwide in navigating the complexities of global trade with confidence and security.
