- QCOs have improved product quality and global competitiveness of MSMEs, aligning with PM Modi’s ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’ vision.
- Piyush Goyal held a stakeholder consultation with MSMEs, who appreciated QCOs for boosting consumer satisfaction and manufacturing standards.
- Government is enhancing testing infrastructure and accreditation to support a self-reliant, high-quality manufacturing ecosystem under Aatmanirbhar Bharat.
Quality Control Orders (QCOs) have significantly enhanced the product quality and global competitiveness of India’s micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), said Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal. The Minister shared this during a stakeholder consultation meeting with the MSME sector to review the implementation of QCOs.
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Goyal acknowledged the positive feedback received from MSMEs, who praised the QCOs for improving product standards and customer satisfaction. “Appreciated their feedback on making the standard setting process more collaborative, inclusive and easier to comply with,” he posted.
Goyal emphasized that QCOs are a key policy tool to curb the influx of sub-standard imports, ensure consumer safety, and promote quality manufacturing within the country. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’ and the broader mission of building a robust quality-first mindset across Indian industries.
The Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) has been actively issuing QCOs across various sectors to elevate product standards and strengthen the 'Made in India' brand globally. These efforts are supported by the expansion of testing infrastructure, the creation of detailed product manuals, and the accreditation of testing laboratories.
In a complementary move, the Quality Council of India (QCI) recently revamped the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) portal to streamline the accreditation process and enhance digital access for labs and MSMEs.
These combined efforts underscore the government’s commitment to creating a world-class, self-reliant manufacturing ecosystem under the “Aatmanirbhar Bharat” initiative, enabling Indian industries to compete confidently in global markets.
