Local Grocery Stores Are Giving A Tough Fight To E-Tailers

BANGALORE: In the e-commerce era where people are very busy in their life, e-tailers such as BigBasket, LocalBanya and meragrocer are making it big in the industry. Customers prefer to order their monthly grocery through these e-tailers. In such   conditions running a local grocery shop is getting difficult day by day. Thus these shop owners are adapting some techniques to survive, reports The Economic Times.

The big grocery shops are already converted in to lavish supermarkets, which provide verities of items for the consumers. But the small shops are coming up with strategies such as making more face to face conversation and providing customers with comfort in order to not to lose their customers. The shops are buying retail technologies which they can afford.

Digital balances for accurate weight measurement, computers with inventory management software and billing systems, and CCTV's for monitoring purposes are just few of the ways in which grocery shop’s are trying to compete with the e-tailers .

Arvind Singhal, chairman of Technopak Advisors, a management consulting firm said that, Improving the customer experience could prove to be vital for the kiranas in their battle for survival. Small, but significant, changes could see an increase in the influx of customers. These days, more and more kirana stores have started improving their home delivery stores in order to keep up with the completion. Small and mid-level kiranas don't have much of an idea about their customer base due to an absence of data analytics.
