Flipkart to Launch Kids Fashion Segment In 2016



BENGALURU: Flipkart is paying ‘a high focus’ on kids fashion category for the next year and announced the launch of a new segment called ‘Flipkart Li’l Stars’. The platform will only include kids’ clothes and accessories, reports TOI.

The shopping portal confirms more than 10pct of fashion business generates from children’s section only. They are expecting this to go up five fold in the upcoming year.

Rishi Vasudev, vice president fashion at Flipkart said, "The growing exposure of both parents and children towards global fashion trends and the rising income levels of the Indian working class are one of the key contributing factors towards the growth of the kids' category,"

Vasudev added, "Toys form the most popular vertical in this category, closely followed by kids fashion and baby care."

The same year witnesses the entry of many foreign kids brands to India. The list includes The Children's Place, Poney and Pepe Jeans.

Pepe plans to open 10 exclusive stores across the country for kids wear.

While mentioning popular children brands, Flipkart ranked Fisher Price on top followed by Lego, UCB, US Polo and Disney.

According to Technopak, in 2013, kids apparel made 20pct of the country’s fashion business with a valuation of $8.3 billion. BY 2023, this is expected to shoot up to $22.4 billion making the total share 22pct.

In the game and toys category, Flipkart puts Mechanical puzzles such as the Shengshou Mirror Cube and Rubik's Cube among the first five. Other items in the list include helicopters and remote-control driven cars.
