Corporate Marriages: A Business Affair

Ashni Biyani, the daughter of Kishore Biyani got married to Vedanta group head Anil Agarwal’s nephew Viraj Didwania in December 2009. Both of them continue to pursue their own business interests independently contributing to both of their respective families (This is the way how business prospers!).

"The business community is also a very large and strong community, similar to the linguistic, caste and religious communities. And just as people feel comfortable in their respective communities, business communities, too, feel comfortable within their own circles. People know each other and also derive power out of each other," says India's largest retailer, Kishore Biyani.

Though being a ‘big-business-wedding’ the Biyani family (the owners of Big Bazaar, Pantaloons and the Future Group) did not invite the press nor did they release any picture or news of their exclusive family affair. The function included a ‘Sangeet’ at Mont Blanc (the Didwania residence at Kamps Corner), wedding at Taj Lands End and a grand reception at The Turf Club. And the bride’s stunning outfit, a beautiful beige lehenga with gold and burgundy zardozi, was created by India’s couture kings- Rohit Bal (her costumes) and Raj Mahtani (her jewellery).

Ashni Biyani was being trained by her father Kishore Biyani to take on a bigger role in his business. Ashni at the time of her marriage was taking care are of Holii, the fun Indian bags brand co-created by Hi Design and The Future Group.
