Congress wants Parrikar to Cut Diesel Price

Panaji: The Congress in Goa now wants Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar to extend his petrol price slashing formula to diesel. Speaking to reporters here, Congress spokesperson Amarnath Panjikar said that slashing the price of diesel would help farmers who use it. "After slashing petrol prices by 11, Parrikar should now use the same formula to cut down diesel prices so that farmers can avail cheap diesel," Panjikar said. Diesel in Goa is priced at 43.39 a litre. The Congress spokesperson admitted that the reduction of petrol rates in Goa had "immediately benefitted" the common man. "But whether it will have a good effect on Goa's economy, we do not know," Panjikar said. In his budget tabled in March, Parrikar had reduced the value added tax down to 0.1 percent on petrol, as per a promise in his election manifesto, which reduced petrol prices by 11.
