Usability design yet to grow in India
India may have achieved global recognition as an IT superpower, but when it comes to usability, it has a long way to go. Usability is an approach to product development that incorporates direct user feedback throughout the development cycle in order to reduce costs and create products and tools that meet user needs.

Human Factors International CEO Eric Schaeffer said, “India holds a special importance as it has the potential to demonstrate what the next wave of business will look like from India.” “India offers a unique mixture of cultures and languages. Considering the innate creativity of Indian culture, Indian usability practitioners can offer a unique insight into the software usability world combined with its prowess in IT.”

He said the human-centered design is important as it is characterized by an active involvement of users and a clear understanding of user-task requirements, an appropriate allocation of function between users and technology, the iteration of design solutions and multi-disciplinary design.

Fear of identity theft bad for business
A study commissioned by Sun Microsystems indicates that an increasing awareness of identity theft may be driving Internet users to say they’ll change their behavior if their personal information is threatened. Most online shoppers say they’ll take their business elsewhere if they find out their personal information was compromised, according to a survey in which more than 2,000 adults across the U.S. took part. The results of the study show that consumers are aware of identity theft and that companies are likely to lose business if they fail to handle customer information securely.
