Targeting the growing market of ‘netbooks’, Samsung has launched four netbooks in N series (N110, N120, NC20, and N310) and three notebooks in R series (R470, R522, and R518). Combined with unique software and features like notebook tracking, spill-proof keyboard, and eSATA + USB port to charge external devices, the notebooks are expected to give a tough fight to the competitors, many of whom are already in the market with similar products. Ranjit Singh Yadav, Director, Samsung India says, “We are expecting to grow 7-8 percent by next year. Last year, there was a sale of about 800 to 900 notebooks per month and this year the company is expecting to sell about 2,500 to 3,000 pieces per month.” The biggest hurdle in Samsung’s way to tighten its grip on the netbook market is its pricing. While the netbooks of its rival, Acer, are available for Rs.18,000 to Rs. 24,000, Samsung netbook’s basic model is priced at Rs. 25,000.
