David Heinemeier Hansson, who wanted to break the traditional development process by using PHP, looked for a better solution and created Ruby in 2003. Since then Hansson has sustained the buzz in the web application world and he continues it through his latest release of Ruby on Rails 2.0 in mid December.

For hundreds of developers who were working on Ruby on Rails 2.0, an open source code development for a couple of years, the web development framework brings in an enhanced support for REST and beefed up security. It also makes it easier for developers to deal with XSS (cross-site scripting) attacks while still allowing the users to embed HTML in their pages.

In addition, the introduction of a new module in action pack of Rails 2.0 helps to get closer to HTTP Basic Authentication, which turns out to be a great way to do API authentication over SSL [Secure Sockets Layer].

“Europe also is likely to see an increase in the use of the Ruby on Rails development platform in the next year,” according to Jonathan Siegel, founder of ELC Technologies in Santa Barbara, California said, attesting the pulse of Ruby on Rails. Siegel cited that heavily accessed websites as NASCAR.com and FunnyorDie.com are Ruby-built Web 2.0 sites that handle millions of hits per day.
