Settling in daycare can be very frightening for the kids and worrisome for the parents. The child experiences a new environment and people away from his/her known environment. Parents on other hand face the anxiety of leaving their dear ones in custody of others for the first time. It is crucial for daycare providers to not only make it comfortable for children to adapt to a new environment but also to provide counseling to parents and generate trust so that their minds are at ease. To get a child accustomed to the new environment it is important that child should find surrounding pleasing, safe and playful. The child needs to be made to feel cared for and patiently handled during their settling process. Each child is unique in how he/she adapts to the new environment. Some children find it exciting to see new toys and other children of their age group and immediately immerse themselves in self invented games and interactions with other children. There are some kids who feel uncomfortable exploring new environments or open up for interaction with other children. They may find it comfortable being with one or two adults (teachers/day care maid) and seek to be always in their custody. It is therefore very important for the day care providers to understand the individual child's personality style and accordingly create customized settling process for each child. A day care provider should refrain from creating one-size-fit-all solution. This approach can cause very stressful condition for some children that need additional support and care beyond what a standard process can provide.

Daycare providers must refrain from force feeding children as it can lead to crying and swallowing simultaneously causing choking hazard. The child needs positive reinforcement to eat well and feel happy after being fed. It is important for parents and daycare providers to ensure variety of foods are being fed to child. This not only helps child get balanced diet but also keeps the taste buds of child excited towards consuming meals. Sometimes parents out of concern send way too much food than what a child of that age group should consume. It is advisable for parents to consult child nutritionist and discuss and plan the right content and quantity for their children. It would help daycare provider feed healthy quality and quantity food to the child.

Given the pace and stress which parents face today, daycare centers play an undeniable important role in child development and care. The daycare providers need to make sure that they create a conducive environment to provide the best care to children while parents need to entrust and work with day care providers to ensure their child has a safe and holistic environment to grow and get ready for future.
