Nikon Unveils Z6 III with World's First Partially Stacked CMOS Sensor at Rs 2,47,990
Nikon has introduced the Z6 III in India, marking a world-first with its 24.5-megapixel partially stacked CMOS sensor. Priced at Rs 2,47,990 (body only), this innovative camera aims to deliver advanced performance with a unique sensor design that sets it apart from its predecessors and higher-end counterparts.
The Z6 III’s sensor architecture, which differs from the fully stacked sensors in the Nikon Z9 and Z8, offers significant performance enhancements. According to Nikon, this partially stacked CMOS sensor boosts processing speeds up to 3.5 times faster than the Z6 II, which utilized a traditional BSI CMOS sensor without stacking. The Verge's hands-on exploration reveals that the new sensor’s components are arranged as bars at the top and bottom of the pixel area, instead of across the entire sensor. This configuration aims to provide high-end performance at a more accessible price point, delivering noticeable improvements in continuous shooting, autofocus, video frame rates, and rolling shutter effects.
In addition to the sensor advancements, the Z6 III features an exceptionally bright electronic viewfinder (EVF), capable of achieving up to 4,000 nits. This enhances visibility in diverse lighting conditions. The camera supports impressive video capabilities, including 6K RAW recording at up to 60fps and 4K RAW at up to 120fps. These enhancements make it an attractive option for videographers seeking high-quality footage.
Nikon reports a 20% increase in autofocus speed compared to the Z6 II, extending the sensitivity range down to -10EV, thereby improving performance in low-light scenarios. The camera’s ISO range extends to 51,200 for videos and 64,000 for photos, making it suitable for capturing detailed images in dim conditions.
A standout feature of the Z6 III is its in-camera Vibration Reduction (VR) system, which achieves an 8.0-stop stabilization, one of the highest in the Nikon Z series. The VR system also includes focus point VR, which helps reduce blurring around the periphery, facilitating better subject framing.
The Z6 III promises robust build quality akin to the Z8, crafted from a combination of Sereebo P series carbon fiber and magnesium alloy. It is designed to withstand challenging environments, with dust and moisture sealing, and operational capabilities at temperatures as low as -10 degrees Celsius.
Available by the end of June 2024, the Nikon Z6 III will be sold across Nikon outlets in India. With its groundbreaking sensor design and advanced features, the Z6 III is poised to appeal to both professional photographers and enthusiasts looking for high performance at a competitive price.
