Nokia, Withings Launched a Wi-Fi Enabled Thermometer "Thermo"

BENGALURU: The Paris-based health device maker, Withings, recently announced the availability of Thermo—a Wi-Fi connected temporal thermometer and app. Thermo digital thermometer claims to be the smartest and most accurate way of measuring body temperature. The device is FDA-cleared as an over-the-counter medical device. Withings is now completely owned by Nokia Technologies.

Thermo was originally announced at CES in January this year as an accessible, hygienic and reliable assessment to measure the body temperature. It has recently entered the Indian market with its various range of fitness devices, Thermo is soon to arrive in the India market.

“Withings Thermo was designed to finally provide families with a solution that they can trust to provide highly accurate temperature readings in seconds, without having to wake the ill child or manually log their health levels,” Cedric Hutchings, VP of Digital Health at Nokia, said in a statement.

With its ease of use, Thermo is capable to measure body temperature from a distance of 1 centimeter away from the body and get an accurate reading with an array of 16 infrared sensors that take 4,000 measurements to detect the hottest point, all in just 2 seconds.  The device has a very small coloured LED indicator or screen where one can read the measured temperature.

You can create multiple profiles of users; enter comments (mark when they have had the prescribed medicine for instance), medications, and even photos in any user profile. The device is in connected to the Thermo app which automatically syncs all the readings on the phone and based on age, fever history, and symptoms, this app also gives advanced health advice.

Thanks to the FDA approval, Thermo integrates with Boston Children’s Hospital Thermia tool to manage a child’s fever.

The device is priced at $99.95, and it works with two AAA batteries. It can last up to 2 years so you don’t have to charge it every day, or even every month.
