Beware Qualcomm Users: You Might be Infected With the Quadrooter Security Bug

BENGALURU: Beware! Qualcomm enthusiasts, one of the renowned securities firm Check Point has reported a new security flaw in the android devices running Qualcomm processors. The security company revealed a shocking estimate of about 900 million infected devices, as Qualcomm is one of the most dominant chipset in Android devices.

QuadRoot is reported to be a collection of four exploits developed in Qualcomm's code. It can allow access to a malicious app to gain root privileges in the Android device, literally gaining total device control. Once infected, it could provide an attacker with capabilities such as GPS tracking, key-logging and even record video, and audio.

Even though companies have developed unique security setup on their devices, the Qualcomm drivers being common in all devices remain as the backdoor. Some of the flagship products from brands like Samsung, HTC, and OnePlus are in the list of vulnerable devices.

After Check Point disclosed the vulnerabilities, Google certainly might be scanning Play Store apps to prevent these exploits in order to ensure the apps in Play Store are safe. Keep the Android's "Verify Apps" feature ON as it is designed to act as an additional layer of protection, scanning apps from third-party sources for known malware before installation.

Some of the other renowned Android devices that use Qualcomm chipsets and are speculated to be vulnerable are the BlackBerry Priv, Google’s Nexus 5X, 6 and 6P, HTC 10, LG G4, G5, G10 and also, the OnePlus series.
