Overview: The LG Optimus Sol is an eye catchy smartphone with Ultra AMOLED display and fast 1 GHz processor. It has a unique shape with curved edges and curved bottom. At the first glance you will notice about the phone’s Ultra AMOLED display which is the main highlight of this smartphone.

Design: The phone is constructed with plastic which feels cheap, but the good side is that it makes it lighter and handy which makes it easier for single hand usage. It is just 9.8 mm and weights only 110 grams.

On front it sports an Ultra AMOLED touchscreen display as we said it is the main highlight of the phone and it also has three traditional Android capacitive touch buttons just below the screen and a front facing VGA camera for video calling.

On top it contains 3.5 mm audio jack, a microUSB port protected with removable cover and power On/Off button or lock button. There is also a secondary microphone on for noise cancellation. You can see the volume rocker on the phone’s side.

Processor and Interface: The phone is powered with Qualcomm MSM8255 Snapdragon processor at a clock speed of 1 GHz, paired with Adreno 205 graphic processor unit and 512 MB of RAM. It runs on Google Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread operating system and is customized with Optimus 2.0 user interface.

Display: The Optimus Sol sports a 3.8 inches Ultra AMOLED capacitive touchscreen. The screen has a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels which produces 256 thousand colors. The display is also protected with Corning Gorilla Glass to make it scratch resistant.

Camera: It comes with an 5 megapixel primary shooter which can capture pictures up to 2592 x 1944 pixels resolution and records videos in 720 pixels at 30 frames per second. The back camera also features autofocus, geo-tagging and face detection. It also has a VGA front facing camera with is very useful for video calls and chats.

Storage & Connectivity: It has a 1 GB onboard storage and has a microSD card for expanding memory up to 32GB. In terms of connectivity it comes with 3G, Wi-Fi, Wi-Fi Direct, GPS, DLAN and Bluetooth.

Battery Life: It comes with Li-Ion 1500 mAh standard battery which the company claims to provide talk time up to 18 hours in 2G and up to 8 hours in 3G. The standby time is up to 496 hours and 446 hours in 2G and 3G respectively.

The Bottom Line: The LG Optimus Sol is not a bad smartphone in any ways but doesn’t have any outstanding feature expect Ultra AMOLED display. With the price tag around Rs.16k this smartphone seems bit costlier. There are many better smartphones in the market which comes in same price range such as Sony Xperia U or HTC One V.
