Some Tax Deductors Not Depositing TDS: I-T Dept

NEW DELHI: The Income Tax Department has taken note of some tax deductors not depositing TDS in the government account after deducting the same from specified payments.

"Some tax deductors are deducting TDS, but they are not depositing TDS money in the government account," Chief Commissioner of Income Tax (TDS), Delhi region, Nurtan Sharma said at an event organised by industry body ASSOCHAM.

Sharma added that tax deductors and the I-T Department should work towards achieving the same goal, which should be "to maximise welfare of society".

She acknowledged that many tax payers not getting refunds on time is an issue and the department is working on it.

Speaking on the same occasion, Commissioner of Income Tax (CPC-TDS) Ravi Agarwal said more than 2 crore educational e-mails on various issues have been sent by CPC (TDS) to deductors.

The number of TDS statements in 2013-14 stood at 90.98 lakh.
