Sensex Down 24 pts in Opening Trade on Profit-Booking

Mumbai: The BSE benchmark Sensex fell by almost 24 points in the opening trade on November 7 as funds and retail investors locked-in gains after five-session of rise.

The 30-share barometer, which has gained nearly 386 points in the last five sessions, declined by 23.84 points, or 0.13 percent, to 18,793.54 with stocks of capital goods, FMCG and banking sectors leading the fall.

Similarly, the wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty shed 9.85 points, or 0.17 per 7cent, to 5,714.55.

Brokers said besides profit-booking by speculators after recent gains, a weak trend at the Asian markets influenced the sentiments.

In Asia, Japan’s Nikkei Index was down 0.45 percent, while Hong Kong’s Hang Seng index shed 0.43 percent in early trade on November 7.

The U.S. Dow Jones Industrial Average ended 1.02 percent higher in on November 6 trade.
