Engineers Care More About Money Than Bankers

Bangalore: If the question arises that “What do you work for?” then what would be your answer? You love your profession or you work to earn money and to become successful. May be all of them.

But exactly how much money will make you feel that you are successful? A study published by CareerBuilder conducted by Harris Interactive on more than 5,700 workers across U.S. industries, stated that engineers care more about money than those who work in finance, as reported by Vivian Giang from Business Insider.

48 percent of people in IT stated that they need to make 6 figures in order to feel successful. 38 percent of sales and 37 percent from finance feel the same, which proves that engineers from IT sector are more bothered about finance than the financial peoples or bankers.

“While compensation is definitely important, workers don’t necessarily equate success with hefty incomes. Often you’ll see intangibles such as the ability to make a difference, a sense of accomplishment and work/life balance eclipses the size of a paycheck in what matters most to workers,” said Rosemary Haefner, Vice President of Human Resources for CareerBuilder.

But not of all the respondents think that that a bigger paycheck means success. In fact, 75 percent of the contestants don’t feel that they need 6 figures amount to be called successful. 28 percent they would feel successful earning $50,000 - $70,000 while 23 percent stated they are content earning less than $50,000 and feel this much is enough to be claimed as successful.

“I think people will be surprised by the number of workers who don’t feel six figures equals success,” said Rosemary Haefner.

If the salary levels are compared between men and women among the contestants, the number men are more than women who earn more than $100,000.
