3. Go for split up plans

At times experts’ advice to avail a cover as large as possible, but it is observed that buying a single high valued policy is not the solution to all problems. The policies with high deductibles can be looked forward to, where the policy holder has to bear the cost up to a certain extent before the company enters into the scene.

"Top-ups can reduce your premium outgo by 15 per cent to 20 per cent," says Chopra. "Top-up policies are very beneficial when it comes to treatment of high-end diseases (or critical illnesses)," adds Rohan Dukle, Principal Advisor, Nandi Insurance Broking.

The idea is very simple. In case of regular diseases, the base cover can take care of it while in expensive treatments the top-up cover can come in hand. The top up process is also similar to buying regular policies. United India and many other health insurers provide top up policies. One can simply buy a top up policy if they are confident enough of meeting the basic expenses on their own.
