10 Surprising Money Facts

6. What's With the Pyramid and the Eyes of Sauron?

An unfinished pyramid on the U.S. Currency note serves as fodder for conspiracy theorists who believe that the symbol alludes to the Illuminati; a group of immensely powerful individuals and organizations who control world events and intend to create a new world order.

The pyramid in the U.S. seal is said to represent strength and the thirteen steps are for each of the 13 states that initially comprised The United States. The Eye of Providence or the all-seeing eye of God on the U.S. seal was also adopted by The Freemasons, which only increased the strength of conspiracy theories.

7. The $10,000 Currency Note

The biggest denomination of currency being printed today is the $100 bill.

There were larger notes as well, like $500 with William McKinley printed on it, $1,000 with Grover Cleveland, $5,000 with James Madison, $10,000 with Salmon P. Chase and $100,000 with Woodrow Wilson.

Large bills were convenient for use by banks and the Federal Government for large financial transactions. Electronic transfer and settlement of money made the need for such large notes obsolete. The increasing use of these high value notes in the drug trade also necessitated the removal of these notes.
