NIPL, the International Arm of National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), has entered into an agreement with QNB, the largest financial institution in the Middle East and Africa. The agreement is for the implementation of QR code-based Unified Payments Interface (UPI) payments in Qatar. This partnership will facilitate UPI payment acceptance through the QNB merchant network, benefiting Indian travellers visiting and transiting through the country.
"We believe that enabling Rupay and UPI acceptance in Qatar will bring huge benefits to the large number of Indians visiting the country, simplify transactions for them, and ensure a hassle-free travel experience abroad", said Anubhav Sharma, Deputy Chief - Partnerships and Business Development at NPCI International.
This will allow Indian visitors to use their preferred method of payment at all merchant outlets participating in the plan, including retail shops, tourist attractions, leisure locations, duty-free shops, and even at hotels. "With this new digital payment solution acceptance, we are changing the way transactions are conducted, improving the travel experience like never before", said Adel Ali Al-Malki, Senior Executive VP of QNB Group Retail Banking.
UPI payments will also increase speed and convenience in payment and checkout for the merchants of Qatar. This will significantly improve the overall travel and shopping experience of these Indian-origin visitors to dangerous dimensions with a seamless and efficient way of paying expenses while living outside of their country of origin.
