siliconindia | | April 20189So why is IVF so popular nowadays? So why is IVF becoming more common nowadays? There are several reasons for this that can be summarised as follows: Those reasons can be summarized as follows:· Male Infertility This Male infertility accounts for almost 20-40 percent of cases of infertility. It is increasing nowadays for various reasons Smoking, Mumps (asymptomatic virus infection), Tuberculosis, Decreased sperm count, Obesity, Stress due to work, less `sex' during the fertile period of womana. Female Infertility The number of women needing infertility treatment is growing, for a number of reasons. Women are growing now with the need for infertile treatment for various reasons, including Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome a common cause where women get more male hormones in their body than required and their ovaries become cystic causing them to be infertile. This is increasing due to various factors like hormones in various foods we eat, lifestyle diseases like Diabetes, Hypertension, Tuberculosis, and so on.All these factors are making people to seek the help of Obstetricians and Andrologists for help to conceive. Because more and more women are working and the traffic is increasing in most cities people now tend to go to the nearby `fertility clinics' unlike in the past where they used to travel. IVF is no longer a taboo anymore like in the past. IVF seeking couples are young and earning good money so they expect good hospitality and services when they come to the clinic/hospital. Naturally, they wouldn't want to go to a multi-specialty hospital where there are too many things going on; like cancer treatment, cardiac treatment, fracture treatment and others. They want an ambiance like a restaurant or a hotel when they are waiting for various things without being hassled or stressed by what's going on around them. Investing in IVF is a good move for an investor because it's a lifestyle treatment (so it comes under a medical business), with the cost of investment generally falling between Rs.2 crore to Rs.4 crore depending upon the extra services and facilities you add on. They are like software companies operating only 10-11 hours a day, six days a week, without working necessarily on Sundays. This business model eliminates many of the challenges and headaches of providing 24/7 care (like in hospitals). So headache of providing 24/7 care unlike hospitals and personnel involved in running a business like this is very few. Hence, similar to other single specialty hospitals this is every investors' dream as the EBITA and the returns are good and it doesn't take too long to `make a profit'. Hence investors are flocking around creating more IVF clinics and the demand for a standard IVF clinic is increasing along with incidence of infertility for the various reasons mentioned above. So in the next few years we will be seeing these facilities mushroom in every city around the country mushrooming of these facilities in every city around the country and fewer & fewer Obstetricians will be available to do the `Clinical Obstetrics' which is becoming a more and more legalistic branch of medicine to practice with various midnight calls, night out calls and emergencies, as opposed to IVF which is a 9-6 job. So, it is every Obstetrician's dream too to practice only Reproductive Medicine rather than Obstetrics which will eventually lead to more shortage of doctors to practice Obstetrics like in many countries. With that said, That apart IVF clinics are going to be multiplying at a rate never imaginable and it will be the customers' choice to choose the right one and this is where the digital and other marketing will make an impact to attract all these net savvy customers till we achieve a technology wherein we can plan & construct a baby based on the various requirements and DNAs and then 3D print them!
