Bangalore: On the eve of his visit to Bangalore, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked police to beef up security in the city. A conspicuous apprehension about a possible replication of the Mumbai attack in other cities like Bangalore is thought to be pushing the authorities to tighten the security belt all over the country. The Prime Minister (PM) called City Police Commissioner Shankar Bidari and reminded him of the great responsibilities that lay with the police. "Your responsibilities are high. I am confident that you will discharge your responsibilities," the Prime Minister told Bidari. Singh has already announced that the Centre would station an NSG unit in the city, a demand being put forth by the state also as part of its initiatives to strengthen security. Confirming the advice given to him by the PM, Bidari said he also told PM about the preparedness of the police in the city. Bangalore, which is home to many IT and BT firms, defense units and research institutions, contributes two-thirds of the country's software exports. There fore the city has been on the terror radar since the last few years. Singh is in the city to inaugurate the centenary celebrations of the country's premier scientific research organization, the Indian Institute of Science.
