India's first digital car project launched

Chennai: In a bid to promote innovation in the automobile sector, Satyam Computers Friday launched India's first digital car project here. The project, to be known as 'Hera FxV' was launched at a conference titled 'e-Automotive R and D 2007: The Opportunities Ahead', which began here Friday. The conference is sponsored by the Confederation of Indian Industries (CII). "India's large availability of talent is making it a destination of choice for global multinational companies to shift their research and development centres here. They are also setting up base for prototyping, testing, validating and productionizing auto components," the CII said. This digital technology demonstration is aimed at attracting research and development to India's auto industry, the industry body said. B. Ramalinga Raju, chairman and founder, Satyam Computer Services, launched the digital car project, which is expected to be completed in about two years. The model will be a mathematical one that can be replicated into a physical unit. "This car will be a virtual vehicle, a demonstration of India's technical capabilities," Raju said. Satyam will act as the integrator for educational institutions and auto component manufacturers to make digital cars for the market, the company said.
