Indian trade team to visit UAE to boost cooperation

NEW DELHI: A high-powered Indian business delegation will Friday begin a six-day tour to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Oman to boost economic cooperation in the region, the organisers said Thursday. A.C. Muthiah, chairman of the India-UAE joint business council, will lead the 19-member business delegation to the UAE, said a statement issued by the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). Pradip Madhavji, chairman of the India-Oman joint business council and former chairman of Thomas Cook India Ltd., will head the team when it travels to Oman. Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and senior state government officials too will be part of the FICCI delegation to the two countries. According to FICCI, the visit will provide the Indian business fraternity an opportunity to meet with senior businessmen, government officials and members of the Indian diaspora in UAE and Oman. "It will also go a long way in promoting India as a business destination. With a strong representation from members of the Indian industry, the visit will aim at promoting bilateral economic relations and cooperation in the region," the business chamber said. The FICCI business delegation will consist of representatives from diverse sectors such as information and communication technology, chemicals and petrochemicals, biotechnology, fertilisers, oil and gas, tourism and power. The business chamber said thrust areas of cooperation between India and Oman include IT, tourism, education and human resource development, healthcare and small and medium enterprises. Sectors like IT, oil and gas, power, finance and pharmaceuticals have potential for boosting trade ties between India and the UAE, the FICCI statement noted.
