IIM-B teams up with Infosys to groom IT geeks

BANGALORE: The Indian Institute of Management, Bangalore, (IIM-B) has tied up with software major Infosys Technologies Ltd to offer postgraduate programmes in software enterprise management (PGSM) in Chennai from the 2005-06 academic year. According to a company statement here Wednesday, the programme will be hosted at the Infosys campus in Chennai for software professionals of IT firms based in the Tamil Nadu capital. A special admission test will be held on March 20 for selecting the first batch of 45 students. For subsequent batches, candidates will be selected on the basis of their scores in CAT or GMAT. According to IIM-B professor Abhay Ojha, the business school has been offering the PGSM programme at its Bangalore campus since 1998. "The PGSM programme aims at developing professionals with sound technical knowledge to business leaders with strong management knowledge and a global perspective. Partnering with Infosys will enable us to groom skilled managers in the IT industry," Ojha said. Commenting on the partnership with IIM-B, Infosys deputy managing director Kris Gopalakrishnan said the company was committed to investing in partnerships with the academia to increase India's competitiveness in the knowledge economy. "The programme aims at creating a strong foundation for the rapidly growing IT industry by providing most current executive management education to middle and senior professionals of the IT industry. Such partnerships will play a vital role in increasing the knowledge and business perspective of IT professionals," he said. The programme will be conducted in synchronous mode using two-way video and audio along with auxiliary technologies supporting rich interaction between the faculty member and students in Chennai and Bangalore.
