HP sets up new facility at Chennai

CHENNAI: Hewlett-Packard (HP) today launched a new facility at Chennai for its Global Delivery Center. The three-lakh sq ft center, which is located at the Olympia Technology Park, Guindy, was e-launched by Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi, during the inauguration of Connect-2006 here. Addressing presspersons after the inauguration, Som Mittal, President and CEO of HP Global Soft and worldwide head of Application Services Delivery Organization said that the capacity would add a new dimension to HP’s Global Delivery of Services. Mittal said, “Highly skilled technical professionals, mature software processes and world class project management skills help it deliver cutting edge solutions to HP’s global customers.” According to him, the new facility was a ‘confluence of synergy and purpose’, adding that the Chennai center, with a current headcount of 700 would be scaled up to 5000 in the next two years. “The new center would play an important role in contributing to HP India’s growth strategy. The company is all set to tap the enormous talent pool the state offers. The delivery center would focus on key outsourcing engagements covering all aspects of IT and ITES including Application services, BPO services and ITO.” Mittal also said that the center would handle all new clients and at the same time would also act as a DRC for the Bangalore unit. Union IT Minister Dayanidhi Maran said in his key note address, “Tamil Nadu was the third largest economy in the country in size at $42 billion, and having a 14 percent share in the country's revenues in the IT and ITES sector.” He emphasized the need for the state to leverage on its assets to increase its share of IT, ITES and electronic hardware market proceeds to 20 percent of the total value of exports by 2011.
