BANGALORE: Germany which is luring Indian software firms to use it as a base to enter Europe said that its immigration and visa regime continues to be techie friendly. Christian Scheibe, counsellor, visa affairs, German consulate, Chennai, at the Indo-German business forum seminar on Sunday said that German Schengen short term visa, issued for a duration of 90 days to six months, is processed rapidly and is thus very easy to obtain if documentation is in order. (Can European nations benefit from the US cap on H1-B visas?) The German IT green card scheme which initially was valid till end July this year has been extended until end 2004. The new immigration law which will come into effect from end of next year will also continue to favour IT professionals he said. Invitation letter from German company, letter of deputation from the employer, health insurance cover and travel proof are the only four documents needed to process short term visa. Mr Scheibe said that unlike in some Schengen countries where IT professionals going on business visa for an extended period of time for product or project implementation have encountered some problems due to visa interpretation issues, the German laws and regulations are very clear on this.
