A mobile app to control cars by Volvo

Bangalore: Volvo has launched a new mobile application for drivers so that they can stay in touch with their cars. The new app allows them to monitor their vehicles from their iPhone and Android handsets. The app will be available for new Volvo models from the year 2012 onwards. The new app will provide Volvo owners with a superior range of connectivity both in the car and when it's parked. It is a free app and can be downloaded from application stores. The application is available for use in Sweden, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Austria, the UK, Russia, France, Italy, Spain, Belgium and the Netherlands. It is also expected to be available in other countries like India soon. The app helps drivers to easily find their cars by displaying its position on a map. They can also remotely activate the lights and horn if needed and can lock or unlock the doors of their vehicle. They can even view the vehicle's dashboard, read information about the fuel level etc. The other features include, theft notification - if the car alarm is triggered, the driver will get a notification on their phones through the app. Stefan Jacoby, President and CEO at Volvo Car Corporation, said, "We design cars around people's needs and lifestyle. Creating an intuitive optimized driver's environment is part of our aim to offer a feeling of relaxed control. It is only logical that you should feel in command of your vehicle, including after you have parked it."
