Bio-Fuels
Bio-fuel is of the highest priority on the agenda of almost all countries, owing to the never-ending demand for fuel and the soaring rates of crude oil. The bio-fuels are sourced from cereals and vegetables, which adds to already existing food woes. With millions of people struggling to have two meals a day, it is startling to see that the governments are still trying to promote bio-fuels rather than solve the food miseries. Though bio-fuels help reduce an estimated 83 to 85 percent of carbon emission, but the amount of land, fertilizers, and pesticides which go in to produce the crops to extract the bio-fuels is startling. These inputs play a major role in degrading the quality of the land, making it unsuitable for further crop production. Thus, though the hype around bio-fuels is high, the side effects are equally higher.
