Submerged Caves of Mallorca
page7
The island of Mollorca in Mediterranean Sea has a vast network of submerged caves. These caves are evidence to the changing levels of Mediterranean Sea, over thousands of years. They are mainly interesting for the geology of stalactites and stalagmites, which are only formed in dry caves. The mineral deposits on these structures have been dated and give an idea of when the caves were flooded. The Mediterranean Sea is supposed to have been much shallower, about 70,000 years ago.
