We Need Women Entrepreneurs, But We can't Protect Them: India

Startups today have given birth to a lot of women entrepreneurs in this country. Various state governments have taken the additional responsibility of nurturing women entrepreneurs in the country. While most journals and articles depict the heinous part, the true face of women entrepreneurship in India is glowing to glory.

“Most of the victims we read about in India are largely uneducated women from poorer backgrounds – reinforcing a general perception that domestic violence or intimate partner violence is more pervasive in groups of a lower socio-economic status,” says Nita Bhalla, a journalist who experienced firsthand violence.

In an interview with The Guardian, Gulshun Rehman, a gender specialist and health programme development adviser at Save the Children UK said  “In India, women and girls continue to be sold as chattels, married off as young as 10, burned alive as a result of dowry-related disputes and young girls exploited and abused as domestic slave labor.”
