U.S. Whistleblower Snowden Seeks Asylum In India: WikiLeaks

But NSA says that it is due to its intense intelligence programme, it has thwarted more than 50 potential threats. The U.S. president, Barrack Obama, too is backing NSA, "We should stipulate that every intelligence service -not just ours, but every European intelligence service, every Asian intelligence service, wherever there's an intelligence service - here's one thing that they're going to be doing: They're going to be trying to understand the world better, and what's going on in world capitals around the world," he said. "If that weren't the case, then there'd be no use for an intelligence service," according to Hindustan Times.

Snowden is now in a legal limbo at the Moscow airport, since his passport has been annulled by U.S, and Russia is going slow on his request for asylum there. Meanwhile the asylum requests on Snowden's behalf were made to more than a dozen of countries spanning Europe, Latin and central America and Asia, which includes India, by Sarah Harrison, WikiLeaks' legal advisor to Edward Snowden.
