U.S. Unit Offers India To Co-Develop, Test Carbon Capture Tech

Besides the capture of CO2, there is tremendous value in the use of the CO2 for enhanced oil recovery, experts associated with the facility argued, adding that India needs EOR to be able to try to extract fields that are in depreciating return on oil production.

In recent years, U.S. officials noted, the Indian Government has appeared open to this concept and some of the PSU's have shown a healthy amount of interest in participating. India is conducting research in this area also, but is more at a budding stage.

The access to such a facility, through collaboration, the opportunity to exchange ideas with thought leaders in this space, and studying the various carbon capture technologies developing at this facility will shore up the domestic research that is being performed.

The Alabama-based NCCC is a key component of the U.S. Department of Energy's strategy in promoting the Obama administration's economic, environmental, and energy security through technological advancements in producing clean, safe, reliable and affordable power from coal.

The NCCC has identified and screened more than 500 different carbon capture concepts and worked with scientists and technology developers to help them harden technology for actual power plant operating conditions and safety requirements.

Offering a world-class neutral test facility, the NCCC is a cost-effective, flexible test center for evaluating the critical components of advanced CO2 capture and power generation technologies, which are crucial for maintaining coal as a viable fuel source.
