Malware is a malicious software, such as virus, worm, trojan horse and others , which is specifically designed to disrupt or damage a computing system.

Social Media is susceptible to attacks from malware programs. Recent news states that a new malware can access social media sites and gather information on actions such as ‘Share posts’, ‘Like pages’, ‘Update Status’, or ‘Join a group’. This goes to show how unsafe content is on social media sites.

One can guard against such malware attacks by: running regular security updates; running anti-malware scans regularly; installing temp file/cookies cleaner; checking and updating security settings on social media from time to time.

#1 Third Party applications

Third Party applications such as online games can access profile information through malicious links and files. The information gathered through this can be used for various reasons such as spam e-mails and criminal activity. Ensure to always click on links from trusted sources.
