The engagement between Abhishek and Karishma was announced on October 2002 on the 60th birthday of Abhishek's father, Amitabh Bachchan. But, just four months after the official announcement, in February 2003, they split-up.

Media has come up with numerous reasons behind their spilt, which goes like this-
Jaya Bachchan did not like Karishma, for some reason, which only their family members know.
Babita, Karishma’s mother had an interfering nature and the Bachchan family found it difficult to handle this.

Let the reasons be anything, now both of them are leading a happy family life. On 29 September 2003, Karishma married industrialist Sanjay Kapur, CEO of Sixt India and Abhishek married Aiswarya Rai on 20 April 2007. There were some up and downs in Karishma’s family life with Sanjay and it was reported that she went away from him and finally had a re-union.
