He accumulated most of his wealth through his fur trading business, smuggling opium and venturing in New York City real estate. Astor is one of the richest people on earth with a total net worth of $121 billion when he died.

8. Andrew Carnegie:

Andrew Carnegie who was one of the most celebrated Scottish-American industrialists, led the enormous expansion of the American steel industry in the late 19th century and was one of the highest profile philanthropists of his era. Carnegie started just as a steel factory worker and later emerged as the U.S. steel industries tycoon. As there is a saying, “Rome was not build in a day”, likewise Carnegie’s successful empire too did not succeed overnight but his savings became investments and his investments became capital for the business ventures for which he would later be known. He is still counted among the richest men on earth with a net worth of $297.8 billion.
