Oracle Acquires Taleo

Cost: $1.9 Billion

Oracle’s acquisition of human resource software company Taleo happened in early 2012. The acquisition was meant to bolster Oracle Public Cloud Service, by integrating the applications from the startup, which are designed to help businesses manage employee recruiting, training and performance review. According to Bloomberg, with these acquisitions, Oracle is building its cloud business to help blunt the impact of a possible slowdown in software sales growth.

Dell Purchases Quest Software

Cost: $2.4 Billion

Dell, formerly a major hardware player, acquired Quest software, to make it as a centre piece of Dell’s recently formed Software Group. With $2.4 billion, $2.4 billion, Dell gets a wide range of products such as database tools, application development, backup and recovery, and security software which were the contents of Quest's broad portfolio. As hardware revenue declines for Dell, the company is looking for more revenue sources from strengthening its foothold in the software market.
