It is a light hearted novel about a story narrated by the protagonist child Greg Heffley who is still making his way through middle school. He is portrayed as a character who does not have any heroic qualities as he is lazy, manipulative and generally unlucky.

It was three cold blooded murders of three women at different places that left the whole city in frenzy. The investigation of all these cases engages him to such an  extent that he was left clueless about someone who was after his life.
