Bangalore: It is a fact that comedies have always been the first preference of most because they give you a break from the harsh realities of life but this does not mean that tragedies are never enjoyed and remembered. Take a look at some of the most tragic films to be remembered for all time.

Mother India – Radha was a woman from a poor family, married to Shyamu and cheated by Sukhilala, who took advantage of her mother in law, illiterate background, thus leading her to sign a contract. While the actual contract said that Sukhilala would contribute five hundred rupees for the marriage in exchange for three quarters of the crop each year, the poor woman was made to believe that it would be just one quarter. This led to a lifetime of struggle for the young couple. Radha’s husband runs away after the painful humiliation of getting his arm crushed under a boulder. Her son Birju grows up with bitter revenge and hatred for Sukhilala so much so that he becomes a threat and danger to the village. The movie ends with Birju’s death in the hands of his own mother.
