Lalu Prasad Yadav:

Lalu Prasad Yadav, the Former Minister of Railways, came in the limelight after he was slapped with a sentence of five years of rigorous imprisonment and 25 lakh fine for his role in the Fodder Scam. He, along with several other politicians including IAS officers were also convicted by the Central Bureau of Investigation court at Ranchi. Soon after the verdict, Laloo was arrested and taken to Birsa Munda Central Jail, located at Ranchi. He is one of the first noted politicians to lose parliamentary seat following his involvement and arrest in fodder scam, as per Supreme Court decision banning convicted legislators to hold their posts. Finally, on December 13, the apex court granted his appeal and he is out on bail.

Sanjay Dutt:

Sanjay Dutt’s  five-year sentence by the Supreme Court for illegal weapons possession in a case related to the 1993 Bombay blasts shocked the Bollywood world. The actor, who has already served 18 months of his sentence, was moved to Pune's Yerwada jail to complete the remaining jail term of 42 months. On October this year he was granted two weeks leave on medical grounds and then an extension of two weeks. After spending all of October at home in Mumbai, he was given another month parole recently, citing his wife's illness. Such instances create a stir in the media.
