Ram Chinta, who is the Director of Engineering - Cloud Platforms Group, at Citrix delivered the first session in the Business track about "Tailoring Apache CloudStack to Your Business Needs". The session discussed the core idea that Apache CloudStack is an open and flexible cloud orchestration platform and about how it can help build scalable IaaS clouds to handle diverse workloads. He also spoke about how Cloudstack is gaining increased traction as an incubation project in the Apache community.

Commenting on the Open Source database PostgreSQL, Ashutosh Bapat who is a Technical Architect – PostgreSQL at EnterpriseDB said, “PostgreSQL is world's most advanced open source database with a 25+ years of development history. A vibrant, strong community continues to fuel its development to cater the new requirements and to respond to the new challenges in data management every day. EnterpriseDB continues to support PostgreSQL and to provide products and services around PostgreSQL.”

With mobile app developers excited about the prospect of easier cross platform development, 2012 has definitely been the year of HTML5. A joint session by Jyothi Bacche who is a Global Head - Open Source Practice at MindTree and  Varadarajan V., who is the Chief Architect-Open Source & Emerging Technologies Practice at MindTree was delivered on Open Standards and Open Source Frameworks. This session covered the future of UI programming.

Jyothi emphasized that today’s web designers and developers are facing the challenge of supporting web sites for various devices, which is demanding a responsive UI design.  Open standards like HTML 5 and CSS 3 and plethora of open source based Javascript libraries are helping achieve it.

Varadarajan elaborated that although there are mixed perceptions about the rate of adoption, HTML5 & CSS3 have indeed made a significant impact to the world of Web UI. Open Source Frameworks and Tools have become great enablers in simplifying today’s HTML5 based Web UI Development.
