MobileTV: India's New 'Entertainer'


At present, mobile TV is considered to be a new and unique medium as a potential advertising platform due to various reasons like maximum reach, cost-effective, targeted advertising, clutter-free approach and call to action.

Companies like Vdopia, one of the popular players in mobile and online video advertising is leveraging this opportunity by providing auto-play video ads which runs across both apps and the mobile web.

Vdopia has also revealed some interesting trends about this market. In India, over a million users keep adding to subscriber base of mobile TV applications every month, with nexGTv alone adding over half a million subscribers. By and large, there are currently over 8 million users of nexGTv.

The app users consume around 40,000 hours of MobileTV on a daily basis on NexGTv. Interestingly, 32% of the consumption happens in the time slot of 8-10 PM the prime time, which means people actually don’t really mind replacing the TV with their phone.

With all these statistics and another study which said, Indian consumers are ditching their televisions for Smartphones faster than any of the 40 countries surveyed, there will soon be a time when TV may become a thing of the past, atleast in the urban India.
