Microsoft Finally Reveals Availability and Indian Pricing of Windows 8


Windows RT:

Windows RT is the most basic version of Windows 8. The operating system runs only on computers and tablets with ARM processors. And consumers won’t be able to buy the OS in open markets. The OS is not compatible with X86 programs, such that users can’t download and run software such as VLC or Picasa or Firefox.

Windows 8 Enterprise:

This version is for customers who want volume licensing. The enterprise version has several specific features that are important for system administrators in large companies.

Windows 8, the Vanilla version:

 The operating system also comes up with a vanilla version that which lacks features such as Encryption and Windows-To-Go. The pricing has yet to be announced.

Windows 8 Pro:

Windows 8 Pro is the version that the company focuses most. According to Microsoft, this is the version that everyone should buy. But the OS doesn’t satisfy the requirements for enterprise customers.

Hardware requirements:

1 GHz or faster processor, 1 GB RAM (32-bit) or 2 GB RAM (64-bit)

16 GB available hard disk space (32-bit) or 20 GB (64-bit)

DirectX 9 graphics device with WDDM 1.0 or higher driver for modern UI apps a screen with a resolution of 1024x768 pixels is mandatory.

Pricing:

At the moment, there are three options. First is for users who bought their PCs before June 2, 2012. These users can pay RS 699 to upgrade to Windows 8 Pro. Offer valid till January 31, 2013.

The second option is for old users who are still using Windows XP, Windows Vista or Windows 7. These users can upgrade by paying RS 1,999. Offer valid till January 31, 2013.

The third option is to buy Windows 8 Pro box from the market. This option costs around RS 4,000. This offer too is valid until January 31, 2013. After that the OS is likely to cost above Rs 11,000.
