Is Rahul Gandhi a Poor Brand Ambassador for Congress?

But in politics, you are only as good as your last victory or, as bad as your last defeat. Since 2009, Rahul had precious little to show by way of electoral success. His much-hyped charge in the UP Assembly elections, which were projected as a way for him to trace a path to the Prime Ministership, proved to be a huge failure.

Salman Khurshid’s spoke of Rahul and said “The political props have got mixed up… The problem with mixed-up props is that you know the lines but you suddenly realize that things around you are not the same…. The stage has to be set up again and only the Congress president can do it,” reported the First Post.

But with Rahul, for all the protest that he brought to his political campaigns – exaggeratedly tearing up the Samajwadi Party manifesto, it seemed like his heart never appeared to be in it. It needed a sudden attack of conscience from Khurshid to point out what had been blindingly obvious for long: that Rahul Gandhi is an ‘empty suit.’

But Khurshid still wanted Rahul to step up and take over the leadership, which just shows that even in rare moments of honesty, the dynasty worshipping instinct kicks in among Congressmen.

Congress's monopoly was clearly over long ago and Rahul Gandhi has so far proved to be a poor brand ambassador for the political dynasty.
