Is OpenStack Crumbling?

Curry exclaimed that big companies usually take months to launch products. Even major players like IBM, Dell, HP and Red Hat are in their early stages of developing OpenStack strategies.

"I would give 2 more years before I write my obituary for OpenStack," said Krishnan Subramanian, a cloud industry blogger and analyst at Rishidot research, who opposes both Curry and Staten. “Compared to Google, companies such as Amazon Web Services and VMware are making money not just based on distributing the code, but by offering products and services in support of the core code.”

"Expecting big money on OpenStack itself is a wrong expectation," Subramanian said.

But one of the biggest concerns still looming around the OpenStack project is the absence of a solid code. Companies find it pretty hard to launch their products and services because of the unavailability of a standard system. However, Subramanian strongly believes that OpenStack still has some momentum left. “It is just a matter of time before they could convince enterprises to trust OpenStack for their production needs. I think they have this leverage in the coming year or two," he said.
