Infosys Appoints New CEO, Attacks Media Houses

Infosys spokesperson said, “Infosys has served a notice on The Times of India, The Economic Times and The Financial Express to cease and desist from defaming the company. The notice speaks for itself and we will act on it,” reports Live Mint.

The company objected to nine Economic Times articles and six Times of India articles and has pointed out factual error in the content. Most of the objected articles were news stories that dealt with a series of exits at Infosys and its revival plan under Narayana Murthy, who returned from retirement a year ago.

On the other hand, a senior executive at Bennett, Coleman and Co. retorted, “Our stories are factually correct.”

The company claimed damages of 2,000 crore for “loss and reputation and goodwill due to circulation of defamatory articles.” Infosys gave 24 hours to the publications to remove company’s related content from their websites and other media, and issue an unconditional apology.

“We hereby call upon you to forthwith withdraw the defamatory articles from your website and from any other media through which the same has been made available,” said Infosys in the notice.

In a nation like India, though legal notices to the media are common, but this step taken up by the Bangalore based company shocked the entire country. This is mainly because Infosys is a media-friendly company and taking such severe step is something surprising for all.
