India Ranks 112th Globally in Terms of Internet Speed

The primary reason in the growth of internet speed, according to Akamai, is the rapid increase in number of 'high broadband' connections in countries where 10Mbps speed is the minimum.

However, mobile internet is still lagging in terms of speed. It is reported that maximum speed for mobile internet is 6Mbps. On the other hand, the highest mobile internet connection in the US recorded speed of 2.5Mbps, which shows that there is scope of growth in the mobile internet infrastructure even in developed nations.

It is indeed very important now to put into place a strong and scalable Internet infrastructure which would then power businesses operating online. Already India is seeing a large scale adoption of ecommerce and other Digital services but the overall speed of the Internet in India is a limiting factor. The Internet needs to be affordable and fast so that it can see more adoption and thus increase Internet enabled businesses which in turn can generate more jobs and help the economy.
