India Government To Fund Electronic Startups To Scale Up Local Manufacturing

The Vision of the ‘Indian Electronics and Semi conductors’ is to develop 200 product companies and 50 semi-conductor industries over the next decade. The expenses required for the same will be met from the 1000-crore fund.

"We will be putting in Rs 50 lakh on an average per company. This comes to Rs 5 crore per year for the incubator. We are expecting part-funding from Karnataka state government and the central government." Said S Sadagopan, director at the IIIT-B. He added that they are expecting the approval in a few weeks and would be supporting 10 electronic product startups in a year.

The funding assistance by Government is thought to be a right step as India had spend 2 lakh crore in 2012-2013 on import of electronic goods and is expected to increase in the future. As no private companies dare fund a budding company in this sector, our Government has certainly taken a bold move.
